Sodium saccharine is used as table sugar substitute. Its other uses include flavored gelatin, canned fruit, bakery products, salad dressings, diet sodas, and jams. Medicine and toothpaste are also sweetened using this chemical. Its advantage over aspartame is that it can tolerate high heat and hence can be used for cooking and baking. It is often blended with other sweeteners so that each sweetener masks the other’s off-taste. Sodium saccharine is also used in industrial products such as metalworking fluids and adhesives.  In 2010, the USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) eliminated sodium saccharine from its list of hazardous materials. Also, the USFDA (United States Food and Drug Administration), in 2000, removed the regulation that called for a warning label indicating its presence in products. Yet, certain health risks are associated with its ingestion. It is observed that this chemical may be carcinogenic, cause allergic reactions in some individuals, and even result in diabetes and weight gain.  Demand for sodium saccharine is affected by prices and supply of various upstream raw materials. Market growth is also linked to macroeconomic trends and governmental regulations in key geographies like China, Japan, U.S. and European Union. Since sodium saccharine is often an intermediate product, its demand is closely related to the market viability of products that use it as an input. The global and Chinese sodium saccharine market may be categorized on the basis of applications and countries.
